"Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis /When I was dead broke, man I couldn't picture this/ 50 inch screen, money green leather sofa/ Got two rides, a limousine with a chauffeur/ Phone bill about two G's flat/ No need to worry, my accountant handles that/ And my whole crew is loungin'/ Celebratin' every day, no more public housin'/ Thinkin' back on my one-room shack/ Now my mom pimps a Ac' with minks on her back/ And she loves to show me off, of course/ Smiles every time my face is up in The Source/ We used to fuss when the landlord dissed us/ No heat, wonder why Christmas missed us/ Birthdays was the worst days Now we sip champagne when we thirst-ay/ Uh, damn right I like the life I live/'Cause I went from negative to positive/And it's all good." (The Notorious BIG, Juicy)

If you're any bit of a hip hop head then you probably know every lyric to this song. The "Juicy" (in my opinion at least) is probably one of the best songs written by one of the best hip hop artist of all times.  The entire song is an absolute masterpiece. It paints a vivid picture of a young man that has been through a struggle and has persevered to great things.  My favorite part of the song are its final two lines "Cause I went from negative to positive and it's all good." I thought of this song early today while leaving the dentist's office. On the way out there was a sign that said "Positive anything is better than negative nothing." I still don't completely understand this quote but it made me think of Biggie's song and how I have personally made the change to living life with a positive attitude.

I think that who you surround yourself with has a lot to do with your outlook on life. Growing up I wasn't always surrounded by the most positive people. Between going to a high school where the majority of my influences were negative and having some family issues at home, I felt that my outlooks on many aspects of life were pretty negative. Going to college helped a lot as I became exposed to an entire new melting pot of people. But it wasn't until my brother Gary and I had a deep conversation and he let me know about "The Royalty Movement" that I really concentrated on taking the positives out of everything.

I still have my negative moments and that's something that I think will never change, but what's different is my support system is a lot better now. Going from a negative attitude to a positive has changed my life a lot and I never realized how much negative energy can drain you until I made the change.  So my advice is give it a try. For me I make sure to start the day by finding a positive quote to get my day started. Or, if I am having a bad day, play some music or tell myself That I can be pissed for the next 15 minutes only. Whatever works for you. The point is that the world is a very different place when you open your eyes a little wider.
